Our next concert at Kammadhenu will feature the special duet performance of Nirmana featuring Ben Walsh and Bobby Singh. Bobby Singh & Ben Walsh embarked on a musical journey together over a decade ago, since then they have become the backbone of many of Australia's most acclaimed world music and alternative ensembles. Such names as: Dha, The Bird, John Butler Trio, Djan Djan, Taikoz, Tom Tom Club, Circle of Rhythm, Pablo Percusso, Citizens of Earth, The Crusty Suitcase band, Rasa Duende and Sydney festival sensation Orkestra of the underground. Apart from being two of the hardest working percussionists in the country behind many fantastic instrumentalists, Nirmana is a duo performance that is the perfect platform for the many styles melodic and rhythmic that Ben and bobby have to offer. Nirmana (invention) is also the name of an album recently recorded by the two that premieres a new type of instrument built by Ben. The “Kotoor” is a 12 string zither type instrument that sonically resembles the Indian classical santoor and the Japanese koto. The Kotoor is played with sticks and can be ethereal and gentle creating a peaceful atmosphere and on the other hand a percussive instrument in its own right, which creates the perfect musical environment to showcase their rhythmic virtuosity that has become their trade mark world over. Special guest performer on the night is Bobby’s brother Sukhbir Singh vocalist and front man of Indian Australian fusion sensation Dha. The three have shared a long history of performance together Nirmana sees them unite together again in a beautiful intimate environment after Ben has recently returned from touring Europe, NY and the UK. ‘Awe-inspiring to watch’ – pink paper UK ‘Ben Walsh, (musical director), masterfully plays eight drums simultaneously’ – New York Times ‘In Walsh's hands, the instrument takes on an affecting beauty, its sound something between Appalachian harp and celeste’ – Independent (UK) ‘Generating music in the most inspired of ways, Walsh is spectacular’ – British Theatre Guide Namaste,
